Christian Childbirth

January 19, 2011

As you may have seen on my Facebook page, I am starting to offer Christian childbirth classes to expecting parents.  This is something that I have been eager to do for a very long time and it is exciting to have that desire finally realized.  Usually the first response I get when I tell someone that I want to teach Christian childbirth is, “What is Christian childbirth?”

This is a very reasonable question; what does make Christian childbirth different?

I speak to many expecting parents and one theme seems to surface much too often: fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of pain, and fear of their abilities to birth their babies seem to easily consume the thoughts of expecting parents. As Christians, we’ve been given the promise that God is always with us.  God, who created us and sustains us, cares about you and cares about your birth.  Knowing this truth combats the fear that has surrounded childbirth in our culture.  Through Christ we have strength, healing and peace that surpasses all understanding.

What is Christian childbirth?  Christian childbirth is birth where a woman rests in the presence of God and it is through His strength and for His glory that new life is brought into the world.  Through Christian childbirth classes we will discuss this in detail, learn about the “mechanics” and process of birth, comfort measures and coping techniques, the different options available in childbirth and how to make informed choices.

I have been so fortunate to have two amazing women come alongside me who share my vision to serve women and families in this way.  I will be offering these classes in the Bloomington/Normal area, Malory Teegarden in the Peoria area and Hannah Landis in the Champaign/Urbana area.  If you are interested or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
